Annual “Joy to the World” Community Concert

‘Tis the season to sing! Come as you are and help us celebrate the season in song! The annual “Joy to the World” concert will feature the 90 voices of the Kona Choral Society, guest singers, the Kona Brass Quintet, Percussionist Sharon Cannon, Collaborative Pianist Gloria Juan, and Artistic Director Susan McCreary Duprey.
This free event will take place on Friday, December 2, at 7:00 PM at Saint Michael the Archangel Church, 75-5769 Ali‘i Drive in Kailua Kona.
Featured works this fall season include movements from Vivaldi’s Gloriaand repertoire by Dan Forrest, Mark Hayes, Jace Saplan, Eric Whitacre; to include music from Zambia, Brazil, Hawaiʻi, Great Britain and more! To top it off, the audience will get to join in and sing along to a few familiar Christmas carols. Bring the entire family and enjoy this free community holiday event! Donations are appreciated. Concert #2 (with two performances):

G.F. Handel’s Messiah plus Vivaldi’s Gloria! 

What is Christmas without the singing of Handel’s Messiah? Or, Antonio Vivaldi’s well-known Gloria? After a two year hiatus, Kona Choral Society & Orchestra, under the direction of Artistic Director Susan McCreary Duprey, presents its annual concert of Part I of Handel’s Messiah for TWO performances this year; Saturday, Dec. 17, 4:00 PM and Sunday, Dec. 18, 4:00 PM, at Grace Kona Community Church, 74-4889 Palani Road (please note that this is a new venue for this concert). We welcome a 90-voice chorus, four talented local soloists, and a 22-person orchestra.
Given the venue this year, we will be offering this concert as a gift to the community. The concert is free and no tickets are required (donations appreciated).
