Requiem for the Living, May 13th, 2017

Join the Kona Choral Society for their spring concert Requiem for the Living, under the direction of Susan McCreary Duprey. The concert will be at 4:00pm on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at the Sheraton Kona Resort and Spa at Keauhou Bay.

This work (by a very young composer, by the way) taps into the grieving process in a profound way: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Requiem for the Living has it all, and is written for us in the here and now. The Hawaiian songs which begin our concert start us off right here on Hawaiʻi Island. We’ll start in Hilo with Kimo Hula, move to Kohala Coast with Keawaiki, and end here in Kona with Kona Kai ‘Ōpua.

Along with our 100-voice chorus, we are excited to be joined by an orchestra of 20 professional musicians, most of whom are members of our very own Kamuela Philharmonic Orchestra. We welcome you to join us in this powerful musical journey and we hope you can share your afternoon with us.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets will be available here through EventBrite, and at Kona Stories at Keauhou Shopping Center or Kona Bay Books behind Island Naturals on Ka’iwi Street in Kona’s Old Industrial..
